Is your life’s experience the secret you can use to your advantage?

I’m gonna show you exactly how your joy & pain can help you attract customers to your business AND make them stay for more.

Storytelling is here to stay. Here’s why and how it can help you:

We all know storytelling will only become more trendy in the years to come. People are tired of old tricks, manipulation, and dry sales texts.

Especially in the time of COVID, people are looking for substance. They are spending time in their house more than ever — so, they are looking to escape, even if mentally. They are searching for something to feel.

This is where storytelling comes in. This is your opportunity to bring your business to life. This is the part where you remember the why of your business.

Give it meaning. Tell your customer’s about the time you were broke, struggling to pay rent and the business idea just came to your mind. Tell them about the nights you cried yourself to sleep because you had no idea what to do. Tell them how you got up and hustled.

Your business’s backstory is not something to hide.

Honestly? We’re all tired of seeing success everywhere. Sure, it’s great, people are winning! But why don’t you give us the tears and the sweat?

Do you think people are gonna say you are weak? Are you afraid of being seen as vulnerable?

Good news: the way you tell your story can turn you into a hero, not a victim.

To say that you met obstacles, struggles, and pain throughout your journey is not to say that you are the victim — you are the survivor.

You have overcome everything that stood in your way and you can now preach to people about it.

Tell your story right and your customers will be compelled by your humanity and your courage. Many of us want that. They will want to learn from you — follow your content. You will gain more loyal followers. You will turn leads into customers.

Why? Because people are more likely to pay attention if they’re emotional. They are gonna let their guard down. You will build trust.

But why do people trust me more than my awesome, life-improving product or service?

Because people love real-life facts from actual humans. They want to know how you got to where you are and why your business even exists. How did it actually improve your life?

Ok, but… How much is too much, though?

You’re not gonna make 100 consecutive pieces of content about your life & business experience. People have quite a short attention span on the internet these days — they resonate with your story, but what’s in it for them?

Essentially, how is your pain gonna benefit them?

For example, Maya Night, in one of her Instagram Stories a few days ago, said: “I created some of my best, most potent work out of suffering”. A short sentence contains strong emotion about her life, but also a little sales secret: expertise. Capability. Value.

You want to show your customers the value that your life experience has brought to you and how it can help them.

Spread out your content. Remind your followers from time to time about the hardships you overcame throughout your journey. Remind them how much wiser you got because of them.

So, here it is, friends.

It’s quite simple: embrace your humanity. It sells.
